This place made being away from home for the holidays for the first time in my life a lot easier than I anticipated. The staff's friendliness carries over to the guests creating a very welcoming environment. Just don't play scrabble with Avi.
This was easily the best hostel I have ever stayed at. I had initially planned to stay for five days and then check into a very nice hotel but by day two at PT I canceled the hotel and booked another five for the Hostel. As one of the other guests (David) and i agreed "If the Ritz Carlton and the pacific tradewinds were the same price, I would still choose the hostel experience"
PT is easily my favorite hostel. The rooms were quiet when I wanted to sleep and there was always a great group of folks in the common areas. I felt very welcome and instantly had friends in a city where I otherwise would've been alone. As an older traveler, I worried that the hostel might be full of young crazy kids, but found the perfect mix of ages and experiences. Everyone was mature and polite.
My last hostel stay was a very long time ago, and it was a terrible experience. I was a little hesitant to stay in one again, but I'm happy I did. The people were friendly, the place was very clean, the location was great, and overall, it felt like a very homey atmosphere.
It was a very good experience; the atmosphere was open and everyone was flexible and accommodating, but the fact that the rules were clearly set out from the beginning also helped - guests were very civil and considerate of others. On some of the evenings I wanted to talk to other guests, and that was easy to do and great fun; on others I was tired and wanted to go to bed early, and that was easy to do as well. It really felt that there was someone making the right choices of staff and rules to keep the hostel running the way it does.
Compliments: I felt very at home right from the start. There was a certain comradarie in the air that I haven't felt at other hostels. I was offered a glass of water right away. I only stayed one night, but I'm assuming if I stayed more I'd have lots more great things to say.
It was so refereshing to stay at a San Francisco hostel without a "club" in it. I was very happy and relieved to be able to get to sleep at a normal hour if needed. I really appreciated creating a comfortable environment to hang-out, as well as sleep in, as opposed to forcing the "party" atmosphere.

Matthew was a great guest! Very fun, social and easy going, and seemed to enjoy his stay. He had no problem making friends in our common area, and making the most of being in a great city.
I had great time staying in PT hostal! the volunteers are very nice, friendly and helpful. They do a great job to welcome travellers from all over the world. They tell you the best of the cities, where to find the fun things etc. I learned things from them that i wouldn't know if they didn't tell me! Alos, the hostal is very clean in general; the bedding is very clean; the bathroom is a bit small but very clean. Those are what i appreciate the most
