It was different from what I expected -- but in a good way! Staff and other guests were very friendly indeed, and the welcoming feeling is instant and genuine. The arrangement and location might not be for everyone -- but if you're a seasoned pro on the hostel circuit, this place is definitely above-average. You really can't beat it for clean, friendly accommodation in a central location for an unheard-of-in-San Francisco price. Check it out!

Good vibes, friendly and easygoing staff, central location, clean linen, free coffee.. they have everything you need. Making friends is easy here and you'll meet interesting personalities for sure. I highly recommend it!
It was an absolutely fantastic experience staying at the pacific tradewinds hostel. Even though I was travelling alone, I never really felt so once I got here, since there was always someone around to strike a conversation with, or simply just sit and chill. Its pretty much always brimming with energy. The staff is extremely friendly and always willing to go one step ahead to help. Its a really clean and well maintained place, take the dorms, the common areas or the bathrooms. I would definitely head here on my next trip to SF and would recommend others to do the same :)
Great experience! Everyone was so friendly and I had such a great time meeting people from all backgrounds and walks of life. I'd highly recommend this hostel to anybody passing through SF.
Couldn't have been better. I had never stayed in a hostel before, but I wanted an affordable bed in the heart of SF for the first night of a trip that would later take me elsewhere in the Bay Area. Everything was great - the facilities were clean and functional, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The tone set by the staff created a very chill, collegial vibe among the other guests. I had really just wanted a place to stay, but ended up socializing and sharing a few drinks with other travelers from around the country and world.
Nice people and very clean and well organized hostel. The co-working space is a real plus in which you can meet very interesting people!
I had a nice stay at the hostel. The location was really good. The night included the breakfast, which I really didn't expected and was pretty good.
