excellent hostel, great central location, friendly, relaxed, amazing staff, with great touches, like sock washing, and PBJ sandwiches, clean, comfy bunks, and welcoming even for a grizzled older traveler. I paid a lot more for a lot worse in SF, cant believe the value
Great place to stay friendly staff and environment. I have been to hostels all over the world and one key to being a great hostel is creating a sense of security and homleyness.
PTW is run extremely well with all areas of the hostel kept very neat and clean and in good working order. The staff (and owner) are amazing people, extremely inclusive and caring of new guests, and as a result, the vibe in the hostel is amazing. Within the first day of checking in, I felt as though I was with a group of friends that I had been traveling with for some time. While the hostel only sleeps about 30 people which is quite small, the common area is comparatively even smaller.
Conveniently located, super friendly staff, very clean and comfortable with lockers, outlets and all the fixings you need to make a tasty pb&j. Good shower and wifi. No complaints! Highly recommend staying here!
The small size and central location with friendly, helpful staff make this a very pleasant hostel to stay in. The common area is small with good facilities - the absence of a TV means that guests are more likely to chat and make friends. Surprisingly clean - perhaps because of a good sense of community and efficient volunteers! - and excellent WiFi. I was attending a conference and either by accident or design, I was put in a room with 4 other people also attending. We had shared interests, and an approximately-shared schedule - which was also pleasing.
I chose Tradewinds because of the quaint common room photos and the activities calendar on their web page. It turned out to be the best hostel stay I have experienced. The place is small but it fosters a wonderfully social experience. The manager Chadwick is a super kind and bubbly personality that makes all feel welcome. Eri is a fantastic source of information as well as a kind, fun dude you can chat with for hours. The beds are clean and comfortable with nice lockers underneath. The renovated rooms floor has an essentially private shower though intended for handicap access.
Without any doubt the best place to stay in San Francisco for a backpacker. Amazing atmosphere thanks to the great staff and a lot of nice activities to explore the city as a group. All in all the best hostel I have stayed in so far.
I would love to recommend back-packer and travelers to stay here for your SF visits. The location is nearby touristic attractions in walking distance. Furthermore, the management team makes it super convenient and easy during your stays.
Super great hostel with lovely people and safe surroundings. Also quite clean which is really important, but mostly great people!! :) :) :) Definitely recommend for budget stay and also really close to San Francisco center and various food places.
This is a very nice, clean and friendly hostel. The staff are helpful and genuine, and the guests were nice. Also, over my stay, everyone was respectful about quiet hours. The top bunk I was in was comfortable and the linens more than adequate. I would certainly recommend this hostel. I was traveling for work, and think it is a good option for folks on work trips provided they understand what a hostel is like with shared bunk-bed room, etc
