I really homely hostel, really friendly and helpful staff. Like a family, wish i could have stayed longer in such a beautiful city.
Close to many kinds of public transport including the famous cable cars.
Great to meet people and hook up with them, if you don't like walking around alone. Friendly and young staff.

Wonderful hostel - possibly the best hostel in the US, hands down. Its in a great area, there are tons of great people to meet who stay there, and the staff is top-notch amazing.
Pacific Tradewinds is a very special small hostel that isn't for all backpackers. Yet it is fun because the guest and staff interact directly and share every day. It is more like a small ship with crew berthing spaces and heads Everything is very much unisex. So one must become use to small boat style living. kitchen is small yet well stocked. Guest and staff share in nights on the town yet upon return are respectful and silent. It one special place to stay in the city Also very clean.

There's a whole staff group that takes turns in being on duty. But all of them are hanging out in the common room, there is always someone to chat and they all know the area pretty well. They can give you lots of recommendations plus will take you out to do fun stuff.
We liked to buy cheep food in China town (5 min) and cook at the hostel.
I recommend to bring a lock for the lockers under the bed. They are nice and huge! So you can just stuff your stuff under the bed and lock the door. Much better than regular stand-up lockers!
The staff here are great. They uploaded bits on my Ipod for me, make you coffee if tired, shepherded me to bars and would do anything you wanted without making you feel like an annoyance. But I do say this mostly about the two Aussie guys because I don\'t think the entirely girl staff liked dealing with Welsh or Swedish boys. Rooms are small but the communal space makes up for it because it is very social, has some free Macs for the net & free WiFi etc. Also a very good base for exploring.
