I've traveled. I've slept in bunk beds. I've had to share showers and toilets. I've had minimal privacy. I've done it all but not by choice. I'm an Army Veteran. However staying at Pacific Tradewinds was a choice, I wanted the experience. I found PTW on Airbnb, requested a 5 night stay and they responded with a Yes! Although, I live 40 minutes away I had to be in SF for 5 days and I didn't want to commute. I arrived to PTW by way of a blue door and buzzer, got buzzed in politely and asked if I needed any help with my luggage, I declined. The first part of my journey was up a sea of blue carpeted stairs, a surprise indeed but a welcomed challenge. I felt accomplished when I reached the 4th floor. The reception area felt like home, it was petite but inviting. Stormy let me store my bags because I arrived a few hours before check-in. Before I ventured into SF, I was offered water and coffee. As sat catching my breath I witnessed Stormy and Courtney handle a rude guest very professionally. When I checked in later the accommodations were explained, I signed for a key and was shown to my bunk bed. The next 5 days I felt as if I traveled all over the world because I interacted with such a diverse group of individuals. The staff and guest a like quickly became like family. Ashley was the best DJ with a warm smile, Lauren was wise and gave great travelling advice, Vincent was a chef and comedian, Albert was a laid back gentleman and storyteller, Stormy was bubbly, artistic and mature beyond her years. The manager Courtney was professional and is my new Hostel Friend Forever (HFF). It's obvious that Courtney trained her staff with love. The whole team was beyond pleasant, very hard working and seem to enjoy being hospitable. Every evening I returned we talked, played cards, watched movies, ate good. It was much better than returning to an empty hotel room. My experience was amazing at PTW and I plan to return just to hangout with a great group of people.
