We never get tired of taking our guests to local hidden gems and this week we are going to a fun favorite- the Seward Street Slides! These are concrete slides that were built in the 1960s and actually designed by a local teenager as part of a neighborhood activism win. The small park where they are located was once a vacant lot slated for development and the local neighbors fought back, including a bulldozer-defying sit-in in 1966. Because of their determination, we now have a fun place to be kids again and city legislation that requires a certain amount of open space in new building projects. To enjoy the slides be sure to bring some of your own cardboard to go down fast! Note they are only open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (Closed Mondays). When it's closed, the slides have locks on them. Pic credit: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/seward-street-slides
