Have you ever noticed the lights that shoot up and down the cables of the Bay Bridge? If you haven't, they're awesome and you should go check them out! It's an art installation by acclaimed light artist Leo Villareal. AND GUESS WHAT! Until January 1, there will be other amazing light art installations all over San Francisco you can walk around and check out for free! As soon as the sun sets, take a walk around the city and go visit them all! All installations are best viewed after dark, and they're all by different artists. Four of the installations are less than a half hour walk from the hostel. There's the Top of the Salesforce Tower (13 minute walk), on which you can see continuous moving pictures. This art installation by Jim Campbell frequently features two ballet dancers. Sometimes you can also see a butterfly flitting around up there. There's also Lumina (14 minute walk) in the lobby of the W Hotel at 181 Third St. This one is a beautiful jellyfish-esque fiber optic light sculpture by MADLAB. (There's also sparkly unicorns in there. Real talk.) Point Cloud (16 minute walk) at Moscone Center is the luminescant pink walkway by our boy Leo Villareal we just talked about. And, last but not least, Buckyball by Villareal (25 minute walk) is a 25 foot tall awesome ball of LED lights at Pier 15! Remember to take lots of pictures to wow your friends back home. PRO TIP! If you click that link below, it can load your Google Maps app with all the pins on your map that show where the different sculptures are, so you can easily see where to walk to them. Go check em out!
