Some movies take you on a journey of fantasy or fiction, and some toe that lie of being a little too close to home. The Lady Killers definitely falls in the latter category. It’s a disturbing dark comedy about a high-stakes romantic chase gone wrong. The themes covered are exploitation to violence including murder and misogyny. It highlights Hollywood’s abuse of women and the way we as the audience easily stand as bypassers to the exploitation of others. The film is being shown for free in a special screening that includes an introduction and post-screening Q & A with the filmmaker, Bay Area native Phil Leirness, and his co-producer, actress Lily Holleman.
