Dragon Boat Race is a Chinese Pride and a Festival that began over 20 centuries ago in China as part of their religious traditions. This event is organised by the Bay Area Dragon Club (BAD) every year. These Dragon boats are 44 foot long, narrow canoes powered by a minimum 16 paddlers (in which 8 should be female).
The Race distance is 300 yards and can usually be covered in 3 minutes. The Paddlers are motivated and kept on pace by a drummer in front who cheers and beats throughout the race. The brightly coloured boats are often decorated with a dragon’s head and tail and can go amazingly fast. It’s FREE and there will be several races, food, music, dancing by lions & dragons and the visitors will have the chance to take a dragon boat ride!
