Celebrate Harvey Milk: Free Commemoration and Celebration in the Castro
Date:
Saturday 19 May 2018
Meeting time:
11am
Meeting Place:
Castro Muni Station
May 22nd is Harvey Milk Day, a California-wide day honoring the birthday of Harvey Milk, the late gay rights activist whose determination, charisma, and hope changed the course of the LGBTQ community forever. After declaring himself the Mayor of Castro Street, he was the first openly gay official elected to major public office when he became the District Supervisor of the Castro. Sadly not even a year into office he was brutally murdered at City Hall, along with our mayor George Moscone. His life may have ended much too soon but his legacy has lived on and thrived, both in San Francisco and nearly every corner of the globe. Celebrate love & life while learning some more history by checking out the Commemoration and Celebration in the Castro the weekend before. There will be speakers, the LGBT Freedom Band, the Gay Men’s Chorus, and other entertainment. The event is free and runs 10:45am til 2pm. Photo courtesy of SF.Funcheap.com
