10th Annual Rock Balancing Gathering & Free Lessons
Date:
Saturday 07 Apr 2018
Meeting time:
11am-2pm
Meeting Place:
Crissy Field (near Warming Hut)
It may sound unusual, but the gravity-defying art of rock balancing is actually very popular. In fact, this will be the 10th annual gathering near Golden Gate Bridge celebrating this unique wonder. There are dozens of artists worldwide who are a part of a global balanced rock sculpture movement. Two of them, Bill Dan and Zach Pine, will be hosting this event where you not only get to watch but can join in to learn the practice of creating these calming, temporary structures from rocks found at Crissy Field where the event takes place. The location is just east of the Warming Hut Cafe. Please note, rain will cancel.
More info from the event coordinators:
Rock stacking is “an art form, a working meditation practice, a tangible connection to earth, an avenue for self-discovery and personal growth, a playful exploration of the force of gravity and other laws of physics, a paradigm for solo and group empowerment, a form in which to practice equanimity during collapse and rebuilding, and a joyful and moving way to connect with others and with the environment.” – Zach Pine, artist and instructor
“Balance is not just the physical part; it involves what is in your mind“ – Bill Dan, artist and instructor
