San Francisco’s Pride Parade is one of the city’s highlights of the year. Running since 1972, with nearly 250 floats and groups participating,  it’s one of the largest parades and organized events celebrating the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer+ community. Pride in San Francisco is nearly a rite of passage, with our city population often near doubling with the amount of visitors that come to celebrate the freedom of expression, love, and human rights for all people. The theme of this year’s Pride is “A Celebration of Diversity”, a strong message for a group often grappling with a lack of representation even within the community. The official Pride website invites participants to “Resist regression, stand up against exclusion, demand equality, celebrate diversity.” so join us to do just that! Put on as many rainbows and colors as you can, and join Chad in the hostel at 11m to walk down to Market street to check out the parade. The party continues in Civic Center with over a million people, hundreds of booths, and a dozen+ stages of music. Get ready for the party of the year, but remember that Pride started out as a riot for rights, and for many members of the LGBTQ+ community this resistance is still very real. Be proud, and be respectful.
