We at Pacific Tradewinds Hostel, LLC, ("We/Us")are committed to preserving the privacy of your confidential information.   However, we also recognize that hostels are inherently social places, and hostel guests usually social people.  After all, hostel were the original "social networking sites" before the internet even existed.  Therefore, it's customary and appropriate that we share some information about our guests to our other guests.   To handle this unique privacy situation, we make the distinction between your social information and your confidential information.

Social Information
Your social information, includes, but is not entirely limited to, your Name, Age, Gender, Bio, School, Facebook ID (if provided), arrival date and departure date .   By using this site, you hereby give us permission to share this social information with other registered guests.  For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, a registered guest includes guests who are checked in to the hostel, those who have made a reservation to stay at the hostel, are visitors of checked in guests at the hostel or employees and volunteers at the hostel.  Non-Guests should not have access to this information, however be advised that a person may make a reservation at our hostel to become a Guest and later cancel that reservation and still have access to social information you have provided on the site.   

Confidential Information
If you make a reservation or checkin at our hostel, you may be required to provide information we regard as confidential.  Examples of this type of information include email addresses, credit card and PayPal information, Passport Numbers, emergency contact information.   We do not share this information with other guests, however our volunteer travelers may require access to this information in order to process your reservation and check you in to the hostel. 

Posting Information
This website includes provisions for guests and non-guests to post comments, photos, video, audio and other media ("Material") on the site.  You are responsible for the Material posted on the site and understand any information you post will become public to.

Anonymous Users
While it's possible for anonymous users to visit our site, they should not have access to the Social Information provided by our guests. 

Email Communications
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure.  Because email is inherently insecure, we do not recommend sending us confidential information via email.  However, if you do send sensitive information by email, we will do our best to protect this information by not forwarding this information to third parties. However, should we accidentally forward an email that contains sensitive information, you should understand that we are not liable for this breach, since we have advised you not to send sensitive information via email.

Disclosure of Personal Data to Third Parties

We do not provide third parties with any information about our Guests, Non-Guests, website visitors or customers for any purposes (including for the purposes of carrying out direct marketing)except such information as we are required to provide by law.  When a third party (for example, an Information Service Provider (ISP) or telecommunications company, or a goods delivery service) is involved in a supply of our goods or services to you, we may need or may be required by law to disclose some of your personal data related to that supply of goods or services to that third party.  We will provide the third party only with data that are essential to that supply or is required by law.  If we enter into a joint venture with or sell or merge our business to or with another company, entity or business, we will need to disclose or provide any personal data that you have provided to us to our new business partners or owners in a form which is personally identifiable.  We will disclose your personal data only on the basis that such new partners or owners agree to treat your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.  These new business partners or owners shall be entitled to do everything with your personal data that we would be entitled to with it under this Privacy Policy.

This web site may provide links to other websites, but we will not provide any of your personal data to the owners of those websites. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.

“Cookies” are small amounts of information which we store on your computer. Cookies make it easier for you to log on to and use this website during future visits.  If you receive a discount FRIENDCODE or ADCODE and use this code to access our site, we will store a cookie on you web browser to track your discount eligibility throughout the reservation process. We may also use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyze data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes only.

Web Server Security
Our reservation form is located on a secure server and therefore it is recommended you send sensitive information to us using this form.  In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. For example, we do not store credit card information on our servers.  We rely on third-parties (such as web-hosting companies and SSL certificate issuers) to provide this security.   We are committed to making best efforts to insure your Social and Confidential information is protected in the appropriate way.  However, since we are not a large company with a dedicated IT department, you should not rely on our ability to secure this information.  See our Terms of Use for detailed information regarding our responsibilities and liability related to securing this information.

We may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. If we deem a change significant, we will attempt, but shall not be required, to contact you to notify you of the new changes.   This policy is effective from December 5, 2011.
